Biography

Tatev Chakhian is a Poland-based Armenian poet, translator and visual artist, born in 1992 in Yerevan.

After several years of collaborative poetry projects, in 2016 she published her first volume of poetry titled “unIDentical”. The book was nominated for the 2018 European Poet of Freedom – the 5th edition of the Literary Award of the City of Gdańsk and got published in Polish in 2018, by Instytut Kultury Miejskiej in Gdańsk. Chakhian's second poetry collection, "Migrant Point", was published by Actual Art, in Yerevan, in 2024.

Selections of her poetry have been translated into over twenty languages, including SpanishGerman, CzechPersian, GreekGeorgian, Hungarian, Catalan, Bengali, Macedonian, Dutch etc. and have been published in anthologies and literary magazines worldwide.

In 2015 Tatev Chakhian was honoured with the Sahak Partev first literary prize from The All Armenian Catholicos Garegin II, in the same year, with the Literary Award of the First Lady of Armenia. In 2016 Chakhian received the annual prize of "Obywatelska" Polish magazine and in 2017 got the Dionizy Maliszewski literary award. In 2022 Chakhian was honoured with the  Armenian "Granish" award in the "Poetry of The Year" category.

She translates and promotes Polish poetry, Iranian contemporary poetry, as well as translates authors from English and Russian.

Tatev’s artistic activities are epitomised in the form of mixed-media art. The poet collaborates with artists and musicians internationally.

She graduated from the faculty of Cultural Anthropology at Yerevan State University, then got degrees in International Relations and Border Studies at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poland.

Currently, Chakhian is a co-editor of "Actual Art" literary magazine in Armenia, a member of Pen Armenia.
